Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Unfortunately, lung cancer is usually not found until a person develops symptoms, when the cancer is more advanced and harder to treat. The goal of screening is to detect lung cancer
at an earlier stage and save lives.
Salem Health Cancer Center uses an innovative lung cancer screening method called low-dose computed tomography (LDCT). This method is able to identify potential lung cancers at earlier stages compared to other screening methods.
An LDCT scan is a painless, and non-invasive process that screens for lung cancer. It uses no dyes, no injections, and requires nothing to swallow by mouth. The scan itself takes about ten minutes to complete but please allow 45 minutes for the entire
